A one day trip to the historical wold famous university city of Cambridge with an optional afternoon visit to a fantastic small city with a huge cathedral - Ely!
Driving north to Cambridge from London we will discuss what we know about this famous university city.
On arrival we will slowly walk into the beautiful city passing by many historic university colleges. We will take a guided tour of the city, seeing and learning about the university, the history of the university and the city that grew around it and wandering through the characterful and narrow streets.
After our tour we'll have time for lunch together.
After lunch there will be a choice - stay in Cambridge to explore in your free time or travel to the small medieval city of Ely
Our optional visit to Ely - We'll drive the 30 minutes through the countryside from cambridge to the lovely small city of Ely with it's huge cathedral! Time for a relaxed walk around the marketplace and an optional visit and tour of the magnificent Ely Cathedral!
We start in Cambridge in the morning, the optional visit to Ely is after lunch. We return to Cambridge from Ely to collect the people who stayed in Cambridge.
Full of history, tradition, exquisite architecture; beautiful, peaceful, relaxing parks and gardens, the city that is home to one of the world’s best and most famous universities will give you some wonderful memories. The 800 year old university with its 31 colleges dominates the city with its size, presence and importance in city life. Narrow streets, historic pubs and designer boutiques make this a great city to explore.
A wonderfully charming and historic city-town. A population of only 15,000 makes Ely peaceful and quiet, Ely is a city because of the presence of the magnificent Ely Cathedral which dominates Ely. This 800 year old cathedral will impress you with its sheer size and amazing detail.
After we meet, we'll introduce ourselves, your driver/guide will explain the plan for the day and we'll start driving through London and out towards Stratford-upon-Avon with one toilet/coffee stop on the way!
After discussing what we know about Cambridge before we arrive, when we do arrive we will begin a walking tour of this wonderful city. We’ll take in some of the larger University colleges in the centre of the city and learn more about the history of Cambridge and it’s university. We’ll then explore some of Cambridge’s narrow streets before taking some time for lunch.
After lunch you will have the option to stay in Cambridge and explore on your own (free map included) – perhaps go shopping, punting on the River Cam, visit some of Cambridge University’s colleges or go to the pub. You will also have the option to join us on a visit to the medieval city of Ely – and visit the huge Ely Cathedral. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get to Ely from Cambridge, on the return from Ely we will pick up the people who stayed in Cambridge and return to London.
After picking up the people who stayed in Cambridge, we will return to London.
At approximately 8.30pm we will arrive back in Central London and we will drop you at a convenient place in zone 1 after a great day!

All local taxes, transport and services of your friendly driver and guide are included.
What's not included in the Trip Price?
The trip price does not include lunch or entry to Cambridge University colleges or Ely cathedral. Visiting colleges is optional, there are many colleges you can choose to visit and most have entrance prices of between £2 and £5. Optional entrance to Ely Cathedral is £5 for students and £6 for adults. This includes a free guided tour if available. However we typically visit Ely on a Sunday when entrance to the beautiful cathedral is FREE!
