Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I book my tour?

All bookings for scheduled tours are completed online, through our website here: www.theenglishbus.com/trip-finder. Select the tour then click on the date you wish to travel on the calendar below, and you will be prompted to enter your details before being taken to the secure payment page. If you wish to enquire about, or book a private tour – get in touch with us at mail@theenglishbus.com and we will be happy to discuss dates, prices and itineraries with you!

How do I make payment?

Payment is required to confirm your booking. You can either pay with a PayPal account, or with a credit/debit card. If you choose to pay with a credit/debit card, please ensure you enter the same address as the address that the card is registered to.

Where do tours depart from?

All of our tours depart from opposite the London Eye, near the corner of Belvedere Road and Chicheley Street, Waterloo. The bus will be parked in the coach parking bay in front of Jubilee Gardens. It is a short walk from Waterloo Station.

You can see more about the departure point, and get help to plan your route there on our “Departure Point” page here: www.theenglishbus.com/departure-point.

How do I get to the departure point and how long will it take?

You can use the journey planner on the “Departure Point” page, or you can use the Transport for London (TFL) website which has real time travel news and service updates: www.tfl.gov.uk

It is a good idea to check before travelling that there are no scheduled line closures/disruptions and we recommend ALWAYS leaving a buffer zone to allow for any delays. You should aim to arrive at the departure point at least 10 minutes before the departure time.

What should I bring?

English weather can be temperamental, and therefore it is a good idea to bring some warm clothes with you (essential in the winter months). London is usually warmer than the places we visit outside of London, and from our experience, you will be much more comfortable if you’re not battling the elements! Layers are a good way to adapt with the often changing weather conditions. Comfortable shoes are a good idea too, as we do some walking on all of our tours. England is famous for its rain, but it typically rains much less than you probably imagine! However, it would still be a good idea to bring an umbrella and/or waterproofs with you, just in case.

If you are planning to join our tour to Bruges, don’t forget your passport and any visas that may be required.

Please bring some cash with you – for entrance to Stonehenge, coffees, lunch and souvenirs etc.

Please don’t bring a huge bag with you – we are a small group, travelling on a small bus, and space is limited.

Why do we ask for your birth year?

We ask for your birth year for a number of reasons. Firstly we tailor each and every tour to you, so we like to know a bit more about the age ranges we have on each tour so we can make your tour as appropriate to you as possible.

Unlike many of our bigger competitors, no two tours that we run are ever the same, and there are a number of elements on our tours that we can vary to make them more appropriate to you, so knowing the age spread helps us with this. We also need to know whether we will be carrying any children under 12 - as it is a requirement that we provide them with a booster seat if so, and to make sure we don't have any children under 3 on our list as we don't take children younger than 3 years old.

We also often run 2 vehicles on the same tour on the same day. Knowing the age ranges of our guests helps balance the groups between 2 buses when we decide who will be on each bus before the tour.

Why don’t we offer a tour to Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge?

Many (if not all) of our competitors offer a tour that visits Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge in a day. For many of our competitors, this is their best selling tour. The English Bus thinks differently about this particular tour, and there are many reasons why we have decided not to follow in their footsteps...

To get the most out of a visit to Windsor, we really think you need to spend at least half a day there. Bath, Stonehenge AND Windsor are all places where you need to spend a good amount of time to get the most out of them, and by combining Windsor with a day tour to Bath and Stonehenge, it means spending very little time in each destination and rushing between them, with no chance to properly look around. With a group at Windsor Castle, there is not much a tour guide can add to the experience over and above the excellent audio guide that is available at the entrance, without forcing you to stay with the group at all times, and go at their pace. This is in contrast to Bath, which can be enhanced enormously with a great guide.

Our tour to Bath and Stonehenge includes a stop at a wonderful “secret place” on our way back to London. We can’t tell you where or what it is, but it means that we have a tour that is so much more than “just Bath and Stonehenge” and we have carefully calculated the timings to allow enough time at both Bath and Stonehenge to do them justice, in a leisurely way.

Windsor is very close to London and it is very easy to travel there independently. Trains leave regularly from London and take less than an hour.

Where are the secret places?

They are top secret, and you will have to come on a tour with us to find out! We can promise you will love them though.

How do I get a coupon code?

From time to time, we have promotions running. If you sign up to our newsletter (on the homepage of our website), you will be the first to hear of any promotions, updates to the schedule and all of our latest news.

How many people will be on my tour?

We travel by luxury minicoach with a maximum of 16 passengers. This means we can guarantee small groups, a friendly atmosphere and a highly personable tour experience. However, it does also mean that space is limited – so book early to avoid disappointment.

Will my tour be cancelled if not enough people book?

No. We will never cancel a tour because of low passenger numbers. We appreciate that many of our customers plan their travels many months in advance, and have a long time to get prepared and excited about joining one of our tours. You can do that with confidence, knowing that we will never subsequently cancel your tour due to insufficient demand.

Where can I see the terms and conditions?

All of our terms and conditions can be seen here: www.theenglishbus.com/terms. Please read them before completing your booking.
